Proportion

A proportion is an equation in which both sides of the equation have a fraction. Proportions are solved just like a normal equation.

Example 1

Solve the equation

The equation can be solved by multiplying both sides by 4

Cross products

Cross products can be used to solve proportions. It is a method that omits the intermediate steps of the calculation, where the equation is multiplied separately by the denominators. Cross products works only and only to solve proportions.

When we cross products we multiply the numerators of both sides by the denominators of the other side.
